AIDEN
HUBBARD
WHO AIDEN IS NOW
Before building the system, we identify exactly where he is and where the gaps are. Honest diagnosis produces targeted training.
- Picks up dribble under pressure β becomes easy to defend
- Avoids contact β won't score through defenders
- Weak hand underdeveloped β predictable in one direction
- Gets stripped β loose gather, exposed ball
- Poor balance on shooting β misses under pressure
- Slow release β gets shot blocked by bigger players
- Poor footwork on catch β slow shot prep
- Can't finish through larger defenders
- Panics vs. traps and pressure defense
- 5'11" at 12 β elite size for a guard
- Athletic base β can develop explosiveness
- Playing vs. older competition β pressure-tested
- Wants combo guard role β guards outgrow bigs
- Coachable β in structured training environment
- Access to consistent training partner (older teen)
- Full outdoor court + driveway goal available
- Full equipment set β bands, dumbbells, plyobox, ladder, med ball
Aiden is not being trained like a big. He is being trained as a big-bodied combo guard β a player who uses his size as a weapon, not a limitation. Size only becomes an advantage when paired with guard skills, contact confidence, and elite decision-making. That is what this 12 weeks builds.
NON-NEGOTIABLE RULES
These apply every single session, every single rep. Breaking any of these wastes practice time. Post these where Aiden can see them before every workout.
PHASE 1 β FOUNDATION
Weekly Schedule β June
His shooting issues are mechanical: poor balance, slow release, weak footwork, misses under pressure. This 15-minute block runs at the START of Tue/Wed/Thu before anything else. Build the foundation daily.
- One-Hand Form ShootingCUE: Nose over toes Β· Hips loaded Β· Quiet dip Β· Elbow under ball Β· Hold landing25 makes β 3 spots
(mid, left, right) - Quick Pocket ReleaseCUE: "Catch loaded." β Eliminate the hitch. No dip below waist.30 reps
- Hop Footwork vs 1-2 StepBooker style. Hop = quick catch-and-fire. 1-2 = more balance. Teach both.20 each
- Jump Rope2 min
- A-Skips + High Knees2 Γ 20m
- Lateral Shuffles2 Γ 20m
- Hip Mobility + Ankle CirclesCritical for jump training and attack stance10 each
- Band Glute ActivationClamshells + lateral walks β resistance band2 Γ 15 each
"The dribble is your protection." Never pick it up under pressure unless attacking the basket. The ball is a weapon, not a liability.
- Left Hand Pound DribblesStay low. Protect ball. Eyes up.3 Γ 30 sec
- Left Hand Crossover OnlyNo right hand allowed. Force the weak hand to lead.3 Γ 30 sec
- Left In-and-Out3 Γ 30 sec

- Attack Stance Rebuild β Triple Threat RipsCUE: Hips low Β· Chest forward Β· Nose past knees Β· 1 hard dribble explosion β finish10 reps each side
Build force absorption and landing mechanics before any explosive work. Skipping this phase creates injury risk and limits ceiling. Every rep is controlled and deliberate.

Contact avoidance is Aiden's biggest ceiling. A 5'11" guard who won't initiate contact cannot score against older, bigger players. Wednesday destroys this habit. Every drill forces body-to-body contact. This is not optional.
- Dribble Protection β Body PressureDefender applies constant body pressure. Hip turns, shoulder seals, retreat, re-attack.3 Γ 45 sec
- Pad Contact HandleIf no pad, defender uses body. Protect dribble against live resistance.3 Γ 45 sec
Aiden MUST attack the defender's chest. No wide escape routes. The goal is to absorb the bump and still finish. If he goes around the defender, stop and reset. Repeat the rep with contact.
- Chest Attack DrillAttack defender's body directly. Finish through the bump. Non-negotiable.20 reps
- Med Ball Gather FinishesHeavy med ball thrown at gather point β teaches strong hands under resistance.3 Γ 8
- Two-Foot Power Finishes β Through ContactBoth feet planted, absorb bump, go strong to rim.20 makes

- Decel-and-FinishFast β sudden stop β rise. Booker influence. Guard reads stop as hesitation β too late.20 reps
Teen defender chooses coverage live: shade left, shade right, cut off, retreat. Aiden reads and reacts. No scripted responses. The brain must work in real time.
- Live Read 1-on-1Defender chooses coverage. Aiden attacks the gap live. 10 reps each round.3 rounds
- Pick-and-Roll Reads β Cone DefenseCones represent help. Teach: drop coverage, hedge, switch. CP3 concepts.10 min

- Thinks before panicking on trap pressure
PHASE 2 β CREATION

FILM STUDY ASSIGNMENTS
Film study is cognitive practice. The brain rewires to patterns it studies. 20β30 minutes of focused film study twice a week builds IQ faster than any drill. Passive watching does nothing β active questioning is the method.
Pause before the player makes his move. Ask: what would you do here? Then watch what the elite player does. Understand why. This is deliberate practice for the brain β not entertainment.
- W1β2Chris Paul β Pick-and-Roll ControlWhere is help? Where is the weak defender? What coverage is the defense running? Pause and predict every time.

AIDEN AT WEEK 12
This is the player that 12 weeks of deliberate, progressive, discomfort-seeking training produces. Not a projection β a standard.
Aiden has everything needed to become an elite combo guard. The size is already there. The athletic potential is there. What determines his ceiling is whether he is willing to train the hard things β the weak hand, the contact, the footwork, the decisions under pressure β not the comfortable things. Deliberate practice + progressive overload + consistent feedback = transformation. Every session, earn the next one.
